12 Ways To Stay Energised In December
The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer…
We are now only three weeks away from the Winter Solstice, an important energetic turning-point in the year.
At the time of the Solstice on 21st December the sun reaches its lowest point in the sky. For a few days it appears to stand still as we experience the longest night here in the Northern Hemisphere.
With the growing darkness and grey weather in the time leading up to the Solstice, many people struggle with seasonal depression and keeping their energy high. For me this has also been a challenge for years – until I changed my lifestyle and learned about many powerful tools that help.
Living consciously means navigating the rhythm of nature with awareness
During this season everything in nature is drawing inwards, back into the Earth – so this is what we’re meant to be doing as well. As we are strongly regulated by sunlight as part of our Circadian Rhythm, it’s only natural to feel more tired or sluggish during this time of the year.
It’s a time to rest more, follow your body and practice extra self-care!
So here are my TOP tips to complete the year feeling vibrant and nourished…
(I practice these all year round – but now is definitely a time to get the basics right!)
12 Tips To Stay Energised In December:
NUTRITION
Eat fresh, seasonal, ideally plant-based food. Cook it with love.
Be mindful how you feed yourself – it literally becomes part of you….Fresh juices are pure vitamin and energy boosts! I love a red juice with beetroot, carrots, celery, apple, orange and ginger.
Avoid too much sugar or alcohol – it zaps your energy.
Take Vitamin D – this really helps in these weeks with less sunlight.
Make sure you get all the vitamins and minerals you need. I take regular supplements – Multi-vitamins, Magnesium, Protein and Chaga mushrooms.
MOVEMENTDaily exercise helps to keep your inner fire lit and your energy high!
I run twice and practice yoga 5 x per week. And of course cycle everywhere living in Amsterdam ;)
RESTDeep sleep impacts your physical and mental health – and obviously your energy levels.
Take time to wind down in the evenings and reduce artificial light and screen time (as it contains blue light). At least 7 hours sleep is recommended… so you’ll wake up feeling refreshed.
Personally I sleep longer in the mornings at this time of the year until it gets bright – the benefits of being my own boss ;)
WELLBEINGGet support if you’re struggling with your mental health at this time of the year. Please don’t suffer in silence but work with an expert who can help – such as a coach, therapist or healer.
Meditate every morning (5-15min) to increase your calm and clarity. Make it a non-negotiable like brushing your teeth… as it’s essential for your mental hygiene.
Cultivate a positive mindset. Our mind has a negativity bias – so unfortunately this doesn’t happen by itself. Don’t watch the news and be mindful of the information you take in.
Make a conscious effort to stay uplifted and inspired. You can work with affirmations, read inspiring books and listen to podcasts. Working with a coach is a great support to improve your mindset.Spend quality time with loved ones and people who lift you up. Communicate your needs clearly and take time to just be in this busy time of the year.
ENERGYEnergy cleansing is something I pay more attention to in these darker months of the year.
Regularly use smudging (with Sage or Palo Santo) to clear your aura and your home. If you feel low or negative use a salt scrub or salt bath to get rid of any heavy energies you might have picked up. Especially if you work with many people this is essential.Cultivate a high-vibe environment at home. Use flowers, candles and crystals to create a peaceful, inspiring space where you feel cosy and relaxed.
